+64 27 437 9709We specialise in swing yarder/cable harvesting, ground based harvesting and road lining in Northern Hawkes Bay New Zealand.
Swing Yarder or Cable Harvesting is used in steep terrain generally over 30-degree slope. It extracts stems by using ropes (cables) and a grapple with a camera to see where the stems are for the grapple to collect. Occasionally a spotter is required to ensure the grapple is getting to the stems. The Swing Yarder is complemented with a mechanised processor, loaders, and occasionally a stage truck or forwarder. The trees are generally felled with a mechanised faller using a winch assist machine. Occasionally the terrain is too steep or has overhangs that require a manual faller to fall the trees.
The Ground Based Harvesting Crew is a compact crew. These areas are generally the flat terrain before the steep slope that requires the Swing Yarder/Cable Harvesting Crew. The trees are all fallen with a Mechanised Felling Machine, bunched for the Skidder to drag to the skid for the Mechanised Processor to cut to length and then loaded out by the loader onto trucks for the mill or port.
The Ground Based Harvesting Crew completes this most of the time, sometimes though one of the other crews will complete this task while they are harvesting on steep slopes. The purpose is to fall the trees as a corridor so the stumps can be removed, and a road put in to reach an area in the forest for future falling.
